Fire Alarm at Duffield School

Wednesday, February 5, 2025 - We just wanted to provide an update that led to a disruption this afternoon at Duffield School. The Parkland County Fire Department was dispatched to Duffield School in response to a fire alarm at approximately 1:30pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Fire protocols were enacted immediately and effectively to ensure the safety of all of our staff and students. Students left the building and went to their designated meeting area which is the Duffield Hall.
Unfortunately, the Hall changed their locks and we were not able to use that space to wait for further instructions. With the safety and well-being of our students as the top priority, the decision was made in consultation with the fire department to head back to the school. By that time, the fire department gave the all-clear that there was no fire and students and staff were able to head to the gym. The alarm was set off by a heat detector in the portable. PSD Facilities Services will be following up.
Our day was able to resume as planned after about a 15 minute delay. Please note that there were several students who did not have their shoes on when the alarm went off. This is a huge problem that we need your support in solving. Please talk with your children to ensure they wear shoes inside the school and that, in this weather, they wear warmer clothes.
We have already received new keys to the Hall to avoid this scenario in the future.
Thanks to all the students and staff, the fire department and PSD's Facilities Services for such a great response.
